China’s fledgling e-reader industry faces seriousheadwinds AfterAmazon’sKindlee-reader becamea markethitin2008inthe UnitedStates,astringofChinese companieshavejumpedonthe bandwagon. There are currently 41 Chinese companies―of80throughouttheworld―engaged in producing e-readers.
E-reader salesin Chinatotaled 611,800 units in 2009 and 1.07 million units in 2010, accounting for 15.5 percent and 20 percent of the world’s total, respectively, only behind the United States. The U.S. intelligence frm iSuppli Corp. even expects Chinato replace the United States by 2012to becomethe world’s largest e-reader market.
