In order to ensure fair and affordable health services for allChinese citizens and to set up a healthcare system that cov-ers both urban and rural residents, the Chinese Governmentput forward a strategic task of deepening the healthcaresystem reform. The major objective of this reform is toprovide medical service as a public service. In an interviewwith Beijing.based Guangming Daily, Li Weiping, a fellowresearcher at the Institute of Medicine and Economy underthe Ministry of Health, says that public hospitals are key tomaldng this reform work and medical workers will need todrive this process forward.
